I absolutely loved this game! The storytelling is better than some of the most popular games I've seen. Nothing feels rushed, and chemistry feels natural. I would recommend this game to anybody I know. The art is one of my favorites, and backstory behind the town and characters is amazing. I don't regret spending 3 hours playing this. Very well done, and a huge thank you for everybody that made this possible.

Ah thank you Itch for highlighting this game on my page ! After having nearly finished the artbook, I am still nostalgic of this excellent experience the game offered to me !

The art style feats perfectly with the game's themes, it is orignal and I found it especially cute ! I also like the effort of designing all the characters in the game, because can we talk about the characters ???
I found them so endearing ! Both main and side characters are very well written, (but Robin will stay my favorite :> !), even if I would have liked some to be more implied in the final action part of the story. I also find the antagonists well designed in their nature, acts and story.

A story that I also liked, I find it simple but it works well with the context and the characters, it made me more interested in the old west universe ! Good dialogues that characterises well the characters, good descriptions parts immersing the player. Although I found some story telling parts in the town a bit too long, it is balanced by the mini gameplay phase but found myself a bit eager of some action in this phase.
Also the romance is perfect imo !! Well brought and cute as hell.

Something that I also really love is that imo the queer characters gives a good vision of both the struggle queer people can face, while being well used into the romance and both the protagonists and antagonists.

To mention the musics, they are insane ! The only thing that disturbed me was in the climax, some music choices made me take some scenes less seriously, or is it by purpose ? In that case, it can be a good thing I think depending on the experience wanted at this moment of the game.

The big thing that made me a bit disapointed is I think the lack of choices the player could have made to influence the story, there are some moments where I thought that a choice could be insanely good to add, giving some interaction with the player and the characters, but at the same time.. is it really tarnishing the experience ? Not really, proof is that I didn't even realised I made not that much choices while playing, and I found the only ones at the end well designed and intuitives, so in the end, it's better not a lot but good choices than a game with plenty of avoidable choices not affecting the story.

That's it, I know my comment is L O N G but I really wanted to give my full experience playing this awesome game ! I'm still learning Game Design and love to train giving feedbacks about a game I loved ! Thank you to the whole team who made the game for that really good time I got ! I bought the Gold edition and seing the steps of developpement of the game is very fun and interesting to see ! So thanks again to the team and I'm looking forward to see what will come up next ^^

Oh my god. This game. I love this game. The art style is so so cute and visually pleasing. I Loved the card game minigame, it was a really fun little detail. And of course, this game made me cry. This game made me feel emotions I did not consent to or expect, and I mean that in the best way possible. The music is great, and the environment is so immersive. I believe the player character is supposed to be a trans man, which resonated with me because well.. me too. So yeah, this game is super cute, super gay, and will tug your heartstrings until they are spaghettified.

edit: I just noticed in the description it says "two gay trans masc outlaws", so yeah I was right about the trans thing lmao.

I really cant tell you how much i love this game. This is the most beautifully written game I've ever played. The emotional undertones make me tear up, you've done a good job making it where the player can feel the emotions of the characters. A queer game about queer outlaws, written from a queer persons perspective.

Kudos to you and the artists and game developers, I hope you are genuinely proud of this creation. The art is truly amazing and sets the scene amazingly. The toss and turns, the fear and affection. The emotional moments, fearful moments, loving moments between Joseph and Robin/Whoever binds my heart together.

The music has to be the part that sets it all. The way it turns off when the situation is still and fearful, the way it loops and you wouldn't even know it because of how the story line catches your attention.

I love this game and recommend it to anyone who needs a good laid back story.

what a beautifully written, beautifully depicted, wonderfully gut wrenching game! there is nothing better than playing through a queer story written by other queer people, because you can feel the way the story hits not only for you, but for the writers and artists and musicians that put the work together. there are so many lines that will stick in my head for who knows how long, just how sweet the affection is between them and how painful the fear and trauma is. highly highly recommend, this game was a perfect way to unwind.

Loving this game! I hope you don't mind me asking -- how did you do that cool squiggle vision effect on the characters?

(+1)

Hi! Thanks for asking, I call it a jitter effect but I think it's most commonly known as a boil or boiling effect? Basic gist is that you randomly offset the UV sampling of the texture in the shader, using a noise texture to get the random offset and a time value to change the offset over time. Hope that helps explain!

one of the best games ive ever played

This is my favorite game I've played on here so far! I can't help but get immersed in the story and want to learn everything about the characters! And of course, as a masc nblm, it was great to see it! Even though I really resonate with Sheriff -w-

This game was truly amazing, I honestly and truly wish we could see more of Robin and joseph, Thats the only sad part, Peoples Oc's cant be mass produced like in most books, which makes it special but also bittersweet to play/read, all in all this game is definitely one ill be playing multiple times

Hi there!
I am creating a collection of fully blind accessible games, and your game is listed under the "blind support tag".  The word "blind" means different things to different people, and within that wide spectrum their are various levels of expertise with visual UI's.  but as a fully blind gamer, I am wondering what features this game provides for those who can not see the screen at all.  Do you have "screen reader" or "text to speech" support?  Is your game fully playable with a keyboard or controller, rather than having to point the mouse at buttons on the interface? If the answer to those questions is no, it would still be great to know what options are provided for those with less severe visual impairments, so that I might make them aware of your game's usability for them.  Thank you for any information you can provide, it's very much appreciated! :)

(+3)

Hi, thanks for reaching out, what you're doing seems really cool. Lookouts does indeed have screen reader / text to speech support for the game and its menus. I believe the whole game should be playable solely through keyboard, but whether that is actually possible or a good experience I'm not as sure of. There are some other accessibility options as well such as changing textbox and text colour for different contrasts. If you'd like to chat more or discuss the game's accessibility features please feel free to email us at marbleclaws (at) gmail dot com.

Out of all the games I've played...this is truly the best one. the characters, setting, plot and even illustration is just 10/10. I literally am speechless.

Finally the review I've been preparing for

I have been in the special interest mood for Lookouts ever since December 2022, and now, since I got the Gold edition on my birthday two days ago, I can simply say.. a lot.

It's such an amazing game, even with the time constraints, it turned out great! As a queer transmasc myself, it really made me feel welcome too.

Every single character felt so.. nicely written. Even the ones who had to be slightly cut off due to time stuff(Black Vulture, still love the bastard, especially his backstory as it really does show how much living in a rich family while being prepared to uphold the proud lineage of the business, which ultimately overwhelms and you MIGHT be too used to that lifestyle and never let go, and that is what happened to him).

The backstories in the art book were also so pleasing. Same with the cutscenes. My personal favourite was the part where Black ranted about how 'good' he was in keep quiet+ run, because you could REALLY see how clouded he is by his past, by how he lived as a teenager before abandoning his family.

I also enjoy the fact that the game was made with so much research, for everything to make sense. It's something so special, and that part alone really made me love it.

Robin and Joseph's relationship was the key to it. It was heartwarming and sweet, to see them develop with one another, finally free from being under someone's shadow, having to defend the people they hated. They found their sweet resolve together, and their relations had amazing writing and it felt so real!

10/10, best game, special interest coming strong.

Also, gotta hate the soup spillers..

also if anyone ELSE is hyperfixated on lookouts please PLEASE interact

Well, to say the least.. this is probably one of my favourite games ever. I loved the characters, the writing, everything was perfect. 10/10, will play again.

This game was so adorable! I loved every moment and the art style is just so funky and sweet. Great work, I 100% recommend this game for anyone wondering!

So CUTE!!! Finished it in one sitting and got teary-eyed at the end, such an amazing story and art style<3 10/10

Howdy y'all! Just wanted to pop by and say this lil' story was WONDERFUL! I started playing it on a work break and ended up bein' late back because I couldn't put it down!

Thank you for making something so special; it really pulled at my heart and I loved every second of it <3

Such a lovely game! Well more of a story but no less. I found myself so hooked with it, that i played it well into the night.

Really enjoyed how you used the music and how efficient you were with the design as a whole. Loved the art, and most of all that (for the very most part) the story made sense logically. I did find the lovey dovey bits just a smidge too drawn out, but it didnt detract much from the experience. Still sooo cute!

Thanks for this cool experience and all the best for your future endeavours!

LOOKOUTS WAS NOMINATED FOR AN URSA MAJOR AWARD BUT DIDNT WIN. I AM HEARTBROKEN.IN MY EYES YOU WILL ALWAYS BE BEST OF 2022

(+2)

An amazing game with a wonderfully sweet story. The ending hit particularly hard, and I was glad to see it all through.

It felt too short, though not because the story was rushed or anything, but simply because I wanted to see so much more of it and these people.

Thank you for making this great game, I will be sure to follow you and try out any other upcoming things you'll do!

(+3)

Wonderful story. I love the simplicity of the art as well.

I didn't get that the characters were trans until much later in the story and after reading the description! I thought the player character just loved the politeness of being called sir haha.

Adds more depth to the interactions in hindsight

(+2)

im crying i love this so much

(+3)

I created an account just to thank everyone involved in this, truly a masterpiece

(+2)

Freaking. Amazing. Okay, so, first off, the art style is just amazing in so many ways. I love the charm it gives off and how simple it is. The story was well written too. Just beautiful. 100/10 Would (and already have multiple times) play again! You have made a work of art

i cried. cried, screamed and feared so much as i played, it hurt but it was the pain i didn't know i needed. i found myself in the mc and the game gave me lots of comfort...
the "i love you too. and i'm not scared of you" part got me the most, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS GAME <3

(+5)

Being in a decisive period myself , this is what i needed. Sometimes all it takes is queer outlaws to get some of my passion back. TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WORKED ON THIS THANK YOU <3

I met someone,I want to find out who he is,I hope I have the courage to let him find out who I am too.
